Notes:
This is a heavily stylized opera film, highlighting the ridiculous, but full of Ponnelle's creativity and attention to detail. Gruberova and Ziegler make an attractive pair of leading ladies. Furlanetto portrays a delightfully suave, self-complacent Guglielmo, in nice contrast Lima's naive but hot-tempered Ferrando. Stratus may not have the sweetest voice, but she's an exceptional singing actress and well cast as the scheming Despina. Montarsolo's harsh but effective Alfonso rounds out the cast.
